The Lytle Pirates came out blazing after a near two week absence on the gridiron by defeating Pearsall 44-29 in the district opener. The open week allowed for much needed healing and polish on our schemes.
The Pirates offense produced 423 total yards behind the stellar performance of the offensive line. Bryan Bippert completed 7 of 11 passes for 120 yards in his first start at QB. The sophomore stood stall under the Friday night lights! Nathan Medrano led all rushers with 228 yards and 3 touchdowns. Ronald Montgomery led all receivers with 4 catches for 82 yards including an acrobatic 40 yard reception that swung the games momentum late in the third quarter. Defensively the boys started slow, but then adjusted well and kept Pearsall to only 6 second half points. Standouts were Armando Martinez who had another spectacular performance at the defensive end spot. Connor Hoffman continues to improve each week at the middle linebacker position. He had 4 sacks against the Mavs.
The Pirates Special Forces also had an outstanding night as we were able to secure excellent field position throughout the night. Standouts were Joseph Soria and Chaz Graham.
We look to improve in our district season. We invite the Pirate Nation to travel this Friday night as we play at Carrizo Springs in what promises to be a very physical football game. We are looking forward to the challenge and hope we can pack the visitors side of the stands.
