Yesterday, your Lytle Pirates participated in the first day of the Poteet Invitational Tournament. In the first game the Pirates defeated the Cole Cougars 55-48. The Pirates never trailed in the game using fantastic defense to stifle the Cougars. Senior David Inocencio led the Pirates in scoring with 19 points. Senior Jordan Ramirez chipped in 12 points as well. Junior Mando Martinez came off the bench to play great defense and provided some muscle for the team inside. The team’s defense kept Cole off balance the whole game and it was a terrific start for the tournament.

In the second game the Pirates fell to EP Winn 41-33. The Pirates were tied with a minute and half to go before letting it slip late. Ramirez led the Pirates in scoring in the second game with 9 points. The boys fought until the end and I’m proud of their effort on the day. Pirate basketball currently stands with a 4-10 record and will next compete this evening in the second day of the tournament. The team will play against John Paul II from Schertz at 5:15pm and follow it up by playing Navarro at 7:45pm.
