The Lytle cross country team traveled to the National Shooting Center in San Antonio on Saturday to participate in the Ricardo Romo Cross Country Classic.  This meet was a preview of what is to come on November 2nd when they host the Regional cross country meet.  The team had some great individual performances as we had 3 of our runners finish in the top 10.
The girls team finished 10th out of 23 teams with Natalie Cortez leading the way setting a personal best of 12:22 for the 2 mile course and finishing an outstanding 3rd after being 13th leading up to the last mile.  Vanessa Estrada was next finishing in 13:33 (41st), Maria Godina 13:56 (60th), Leala Marquez 13:59 (62nd), Aubrey Torres 16:03 (159th), and Meagan Trimmer 17:18 (196th) out of 214 runners.
For the boys team Jethro Stokes had another great showing as he finished 3rd with a time of 16:49 for the 5K course, helping his team to a 3rd place finish out of 22 teams.  Medaling also was Elijah Marquez who finished 9th in 17:16.  Alex Herrera ran a 17:37 (19th), Gabino Olalde 18:37 (45th), Jimmy Angeles 19:11 (66th), Landon Vasquez 19:46 (96th), Jose Garcia 19:56 (102nd), Nikko Beavers 21:14 (151th), and Tre’von Huth 23:06 (188th) out of 223 runners competing.
The team has four more weeks to improve and prepare for district and six more weeks until regionals.  The runners have worked hard but still need a little more push to try and win district.  Please encourage these runners when you see them and hopefully you can find the time to come out and support them.   They next travel to Uvalde this Saturday to participate in the  1st annual SWTJC cross country invitational.  Hope to see you there.
