Howdy all,

“Appreciation is a wonderful thing; it makes what is excellent in others belong to us as well.” – Voltaire

This week the Junior High was allowed to compete in Poth.  This week Coach Ruiz allowed us to compete in the meet and the varsity runners came and cheered us as we ran.  How exciting it is to see high school athletes giving guidance to the Junior High Pirates.  It was a beautiful day to run and we competed well preparing for our district race October 19th.  We had four 8th grade boys run.  They ran well especially compared to their times they ran last year.

Jared Garrison                    19th                        12:58

Johnny Gonzales III         28th                         13:33

Giovanni Perez                 32nd                        13:58

Zachary Rodriguez           34th                         14:32

Ariel Muriara was the only Lady Pirate competing this week and she ran a 13:56 placing 5th overall and medaling for her second straight race.

The highlight of the week comes from the seventh grade lads.  What a distance they have traveled to become a team of Cross Country runners.  Mark Cantu was edged at the finish line by another Mark.  He finished 2nd with a blazing time of 11:20.  Alex Esquivez medaled 9th with a time of 12:49.  J.C. Hernandez finished 10th, medaling with a 13:13 time.  The other seventh grade finishers are as follows:

11thGoyo Alcorta            13:19

16thRafael Pacheco        13:40

18th  Isaac Howard            13:50

26thMason Ringer           14:47

29thIsrael Aguinaga        15:04

31stDario Alfaro               15:11

35thQuen Syma               15:52

38thKyle Mueller             16:05

When the dust settled and the results were tallied the seventh grade lads won the meet by one point over a tough Pearsall team. (See attached picture) The excitement the lads had will hopefully propel them to seize a district title.  It will take a great amount of work for this final push to compete in one of the toughest Cross Country districts in Texas.  “Keep Running with the dark horses.”  -SwitchfootThanks again to Coach Ruiz for allowing me to showcase the Junior High runners.  It is a great honor to be his bus driver.
