“Don’t think that you can make up for it by working twice as hard tomorrow.  If you have it within your power to work twice as hard, why aren’t you doing it now?” – John Wooden

I think that some of the players believe that they can turn it on when the game starts, but I believe how we practice is how we play.  Last night the 8th grade ladies traveled to Hondo.   The girls battled but came up short on the scoreboard.  The B game started slow and after the first quarter the score was Lytle 0 Hondo 0.  Lytle never led in the game.  The girls got to within one in the fourth quarter but unlike last week they didn’t close out the game strong.  Hondo knocked down a couple of key free throws but the girls gave themselves a chance to win in the fourth quarter.  The final score was Hondo 21 – Lady Pirates 18.  The frustrating thing is to know that they could have won if they had made free throws.  We shot 4 for 16 from the line.  The star of the night was Ariathna Gonzales.  She had two key rebound put backs in the fourth quarter and scored 5 points.  Camyrn Martinez also scored 5 points.  Eleni Keith added 3, Kim Diaz 2, Jerelynn Kent 2, and Brianna Sanchez hit one free throw.

The A team was not at full strength again due to practice absences but they battled hard.  We played a very tough zone defense but we missed too many layups.  The star of the night was Abby Garcia who scored six points.  A special thanks to Coach Cross for the bunch inbounds play.  We scored 10 points off that one inbounds play.  By the end of the evening Hondo had 37 and Lytle 18.  We had flashes of brilliance and we are just one pass away from going from a good shot to a great shot.  Jeanae Harden also scored six points, Destinae Darby added 5 and Isabella Syma added one.  We play at home against Fredricksburg after Thanksgiving.

The ladies would like to wish everyone in Lytle a happy Thanksgiving.
