Although the season didn't end the way we had hoped, these girls have greatly improved from last year. They have turned their weaknesses into strengths and always worked to improve. I am so proud at the amount of growth these girls have showed on and off the court. Thanks for the support all season.
The 8th grade boys closed our season out in grand fashion. We played host to the #1 team in our district. The B team came out and jumped on the hounds quick scoring the first 7 points of the game; the hounds fought back and was able to take control of the game. The hounds won round one 40-21; Adrian Soto lead the Pirates with 10 points followed by Jacob Morales with 5. The A team started the game in the same fashion scoring the first 9 points of the game, but went into halftime down by two. The Pirates came out of halftime with Two Big 3 pointers to take command of the game winning 34-29. The Boerne A team was undefeated but found out that records mean nothing in the Pirates' Cove. I am proud of the effort of these young men.
Basketball season in the Junior High came to an end last night. The 7th grade girls traveled to Boerne last night and played their final game as a 7th grade basketball player. The B team out shot Boerne in the first quarter but didn’t make a shot. The girls fought to the end scoring all their points in the fourth quarter, winning the quarter 6 to 2. Again a quarter doesn’t make a game and the final score was Boerne 22 – Lytle 6. Eleni Keith led the scorers with 3, Emily Garcia added 2 and Dora Patlan scored her first point of the season.
I wish I could say the A team did their best but the night was missing effort at times. We had a difficult time playing a man defense because we didn’t match up well with their size and speed. At times we ran our offense to get good open shots. At times we played sound defense and kept Boerne out of the paint. Once we learn to play a complete game this team has the potential to represent Lytle with dignity. Jeanae Harden led the team with seven points, finishing the season with 109 points. Destinae Darby and Catalina Barrera added 4 points. Catalina found her spot this year and has confidence to sink a fifteen foot bank shot. Abby Garcia added 2 points. The final score was Boerne 41 – Lytle 17.
I would like to thank Coach Wilson and Coach Judge for giving me an opportunity to guide these young ladies in the sport of basketball. We would like to thank the ladies in the cafeteria for the meals you lovingly prepared for our away games. There are few things as sweet as a peanut butter and jelly sandwich after a victory. The girls finished the season with the following records. B team was 2 and 8 and the A team was 2 and 10.

Last night your 7th grade boys went out in style, playing their best game of the season. Starting the game off with Lytle's 6 players against Boerne's 10 players we knew we were in for a tough night. The boys did not let that get in their way and had the second best first quarter of their season scoring 9 points. The second-quarter was a different story though. We went 0-7 from the field and 0-3 from the line and went to the locker room at halftime down 22-9. The second-half the boys came out and played with passion, pride, and togetherness. Our team defense was really something to see. We won the third quarter 12-5 and started the fourth quarter off down by 6. Being in this position was something new for these boys. For most of the season we were down so much in the fourth quarter that it was just play time without much strategy whatsoever. But last night we were in a ball game. We won the fourth quarter 10-5. They saw being down 6 as a challenge not as an obstacle and went for it. I have so much pride in what these boys have accomplished this year. Their growth on and off the court is something I will treasure always. The future is bright in Lytle.
