Our arctic warriors braved the cold once again on the coast of Dilley at the final tournament of the season. After dropping the first game to St. Anthony's 5-1, the Pirate softballers rattled off three straight wins. Lytle took down Brackettville 12-1, Crystal City 12-4 and in a rematch from game one, scored 4 runs in the top of the final inning to beat St. Anthony's 4-3 to advance to the championship game against Hondo. After lightning entered the area, the championship game was halted and Lytle/Hondo were declared Dilley Tournament co-champions. I tried for a coach home run derby for all the marbles but no dice.
Our JV squad scored a million runs and won the Dilley Tournament outright with convincing wins over Pearsall B 15-2, Uvalde 16-4, Dilley 19-0 and Pearsall A in the championship game 16-11. Very proud of this group and how they are coming together!!
Tuesday we were rained out and it was not rescheduled due to travel commitments.
Friday, we traveled to the sunny island of Poteet for a final tune-up before district play. Playing with a hot sun was a strange yet enjoyable experience! JV pounced early and often with a 20-0 victory. Varsity followed up with a 15-1 win in the night cap to raise their record to 11-4.
The Pirates are excited to host Devine tomorrow night at 5/7 in Lytle in the opening game of District 29-4A play. Come have some fun with us this spring!
