The junior high track teams traveled to Randolph AFB looking for some good competition before district. The 7th grade boys ran away with the championship team but were not the only top finishers of the night. Jeanae Harden finished 1st in the 7th grade girls 100m and 200m; she missed a trifecta by placing 2nd in the triple jump. Emily Garcia doubled up also by finishing 1st in shot put and discus-- her throws in shot and disc would have won the 8th grade girls events. Kayla Alvarez won the 8th grade girls discus. Victor Garcia also doubled up in the 8th grade boys division with 1st place finishes in shot and disc. Joseph Bueno finished 2nd in discus. Kannon Hunter took first in the 200m dash and 2nd in triple jump.
The 7th grade boys showed up ready for gold. Carlos Tamayo, Omar Al-Qahtani, and Damyan Derrick were all three gold medal winners. Carlos in the 800m, 400m, and the 4x400m relay; Damyan 4x100m,4x200m and the 4x400m relays; Omar: High jump,4x100m and the 4x400m relay. George Fassett and Thomas Dominguez brought home two gold medals. George anchored the 4x100m and the 4x200m relays; Thomas in the 4x100mand the 4x400m relays.Oscar Rodriguez and Luis Morales won gold as members of the 4x200m relay. John Martinez finished 2nd in both the 800m and triple jump. The Pirates represented well.
