Incarnate Word - lost 6-0

We definitely faced the toughest pitcher of our year against Incarnate Word, but we had some courageous and disciplined at bats, we just weren’t able to put much together.  They’re state championship contenders every year and it shows with the explosiveness in their lineup.  We shut them out 5 of the 7 innings, so our pitching and defense had some great moments and we were able to take away some good lessons from competing against that caliber of team.

Pearsall Tournament

Defeated Sabinal 13-3, Defeated Port Aransas 15-0, Defeated Jourdanton 3-2, Lost to Kerrville Tivy 11-2

Friday was a great day, we went 3-0 to win our pool on a beautiful day for softball.  Deja Darby had Sabinal’s offense shut down with an awesome pitching performance and Precious Carrillo locked down the circle for the shoutout against Port Aransas. Our lineups in both games really got the big bats going which kept the momentum on our side the entire time and never let our opponents breathe.

The Jourdanton game was obviously the game we were working towards and we jumped out to an early lead and never let it go.  Macy Smith pitched her heart out and kept a powerful Squaw lineup off guard the entire game.  We ran the bases aggressively and stayed confident from the first pitch.  Our defense played solid and we escaped a major jam in the last inning to secure a win over a great team that frankly has gotten to us for three years in a row.  It was a great battle and it was what our young team needed to go through as we strengthen up mentally for the second part of the year.

We entered single elimination bracket play on Saturday morning with a strong Kerrville Tivy team.  We ended up losing 11-2.  We put the ball in play the majority of the game, but honestly nothing ever found a hole and their defense was nearly flawless.

The tournament was a success.  3 different pitchers really had strong outings, our bats were solid the entire weekend and our defense is starting to solidify.  We are very athletic and have several girls that can play all over the field so it is nice to have that flexibility in our roster.  We had some power come out also as Macy Smith and Carli Diver each had 2 bombs while speedster Kayla Herrera had an inside the park shot on a line drive into the right field corner.

This team plays some exciting, aggressive softball and I think as we continue to gel, they are poised to do some exciting things this season.

We travel to Crystal City on Tuesday for a game and play in the Dilley Tournament on Friday and Saturday to wrap up our tournament season.
