Lytle Pirate Softball opened district season during Spring Break with a bang!
The girls travelled to Devine to take on the Arabians and it was an intense game as most rivalry games are. Devine held the Pirate offense at bay with some timely defense through the first half of the game, but the girls exploded in the 5th inning for five runs to break the game open. Jahzlyn Aguinaga drew a walk, Kayla Herrera punched a double into left center and Precious Carrillo lined one into right to break the scoreless tie. Macy Smith hit a bomb over a parked truck to drive in two and Carli Diver sent a pitch the very next at bat out of the stadium down the left field line for back to back fireworks for Lytle and a 5-0 lead!! The girls added insurance runs in the 6th and 7th to come away with an 8-0 victory on the road. Macy Smith kept the Devine attack in check with 8 strikeouts and saw defensive highlight plays by Deja Darby, Sadie Bippert and Jahzlyn and Jalyn Aguinaga.
Pirate softball moved up their Friday game at home against Boerne to Thursday night to beat the weather threat of rain and the girls’ momentum was still strong. Lytle put 3 on the board in the bottom of the 2nd on a walk, 3 hits and 3 stolen bases. Boerne countered in the top of the 4th with a run as the game stayed tense at 3-1. The Pirate pressure finally got to Greyhound pitching in the bottom of the fifth as Lytle batted around, sending 12 girls to the plate scoring 8 runs on 7 hits and 3 walks to activate the 10 run rule. Macy Smith finished with 10 strikeouts in the game and the defense was once again solid on our home turf.
The victories move us to 15-4 overall and 2-0 in district play. The girls travel to Bandera Tuesday and host Fredericksburg at home on Thursday ahead of the Good Friday holiday!
