Last night, the Pirate softballers once again hit the road and squared off against Bandera in a district Hill Country face off.
Bandera took advantage of a Pirate error and jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning. Lytle answered in the top of the second with 2 runs on 2 hit by pitches and a single by Samantha Dear. The Bulldogs put 3 on the board in the top of the 3rd to go up 4-2.
The girls kept their composure and discipline at the plate and in the top of the 4th inning flipped the score to 7-4 with hits by Macy Smith, Sunny Ornales, Deja Darby, Sadie Bippert and Jahzlyn Aguinaga to shift the momentum back in Lytle’s favor.
Bandera pulled closer to 7-5 in the bottom of the sixth, but the Pirate offense exploded in the top of the 7th. Deja Darby got the run back with a lead off shot to the right field wall for an inside the park home run. 3 misplayed balls led to 2 more runs setting up bases loaded and no outs for Macy Smith. Smith crushed the 4th pitch of the at bat over the right center field fence blasting the ball through a stiff wind blowing hard in towards home for a grand slam. The girls’ lead was now 14-5 going into the final at bat for Bandera. Bandar moved 1 across but the damage was done and the Pirates left with a 14-6 victory.
The girls picked the right day do be a little sloppy on defense as their bats throughout the entire lineup once again delivered. Their record moves to 16-4 on the season with a 3-0 start in district action.
JV also had a great game after a week layoff due to the weather and won their matchup 6-2 to improve to 6-4 overall and 1-1 in district.
The Pirates host Fredericksburg tomorrow night in a battle of the district unbeatens before the Easter break. JV will play at 5pm with Varsity to follow at 7pm.
